I have a 1931 dodge sedan. I need a battery but don't know if 12 volt or six volt. Also, is it a positve or negative ground.

Your car is 6 volt positive ground. The battery doesn't care if it is positive ground or negative ground. It just means that the + side of the battery goes to ground

Thanks Rick. Can you tell me where the battery goes. The cables are there, attached to starter and frame, but don't see anywhere for battery to sit. Maybe a bracket missing?

There should be a battery holder under the front seat on the driver's side.

The battery holder is not under the front seat. It is beneath the front floor board on the drivers side. If you lift up the mat, there should be an access door in the center of the floor board. There should be a metal bracket and support that the battery sits in.
