I now have a set of split rims for my '17 touring. They are going to the media blaster. What next? Have read they may have originally been galvanized but I'm in small city Texas and don't have access to that service. This is not going to be a judged show car. Just want the rims well preserved and looking proper to last... oh... say... another 97 years. Your thoughts?

I used the silver "hammered" paint. Rustoleum makes one, I think another is Hammerite. If the rims are pitted, the hammered helps hide that. I have also had them powder coated silver, which also looked good.

From the research I have done I believe the correct finishing was Zinc Electroplating. The tire rims, rim bolts & clamps were zinc electroplated and the balance of the wheel was painted Ditzler Paris Blue.

Comments appreciated. After finally finding an adaptable pair of 25" rims, all will go to media blast today.

After media blasting of my split rims, I went over them with Ospho to kill any possible rust still down in the metal. At Lowe's I purchased two cans of galvanize spray and put on two nice coats of the stuff. When dry this galvanize held up to the rigors of mounting the rims into the new tires. I also wire brushed, ospho'd and galvanize sprayed the steel channel capping the outside of the wood feloe of the wheels. I know that channel was originally painted Dodge blue (along with all the wood) but it looks fine for now. I'm pleased with the dull medium silver look of the galvanize spray and its toughness. Only time will tell its effectiveness.
Thanks for comments in this thread and in others.
