There should be four nuts on the front flange and four
on the rear flange

Are you referring to the flange where the drive shaft bolts to the rear end? If so, I have the shaft disconnected @ this location. I've removed what looks to be the emergency brake band but I can not pull the drive shaft out of the rear of the transmission?
I appreciate your help,
Gary

There should be 4 nuts holding the drive shaft to the transmission emergency brake drum at least that's how my 38 is.

If you can post a photo of the area where you are having a problem, this is a simple situation but something is being overlooked or misinterpreted. My first car was a '38 Dodge sedan, no different mechanically than your car, and I had that driveshaft off at age 15 with my dad's extremely limited assortment of loose tools.

It has the same 4 bolts at the tranny end as does the rear end. I am in the middle of doing my 36 DB pickup. Same setup. Ball and trunion joints at each end.

Rick.......thanks for your feedback. My 37 looks to be the same but the drive shaft won't come out. My car was @ one time, under water i.e. in a flood. So it may be froze with rust.
Thanks,
Gary

Wayne......I'm @ a loss for words, other than to say if you're still 15, can you come to Texas ? I guess my next step will be to try and pull the transmission with all the guts and the feathers. I suspect the drive shaft my be frozen in place from being under water.
Thanks,
Gary

I'm no longer 15. About to hit 67. And I am in Texas. There have been a lot of miles, a lot of cars and a lot of scraped knuckles in between.
