A modestly pesky problem I've had on pleasure drives has been that about 3-4 times now, after I'm at full operating temp (but not overheating) my idle will drop so low it nearly dies. I don't wait for it to die, I'll hand throttle it up - but the status is a noticably slower idle vs when the car first starts, and in the earlier part of the drive. And I'd say this doesn't happen on every drive, hmmm.
So I checked - for the first time - my point gap. It was .24. Book O' Info sez .20 so I carefully reset it. What result would a too-wide point gap create? Relevant to a slow idle?
Texas Jim

PS my engine has a happy op temp, and a happy oil pressure.

Jim, it will probably make no difference to your idle. It is actually normal for the idle to get lower when it warms up. If it is TOO low raise it up a little. All adjustments to carb should be done with a warm engine.

Thanks Doug, I tend to worry too much !

As your vacuum fuel pump empties and fills it will change idle due to open and closed vacuum, just like a vacuum leak will speed idle up, then plug it causes it to slow down.
