Some years ago there was discussion around the leather cone clutch on early Dodges. I’d like to revive that. My clutch is slipping. Assuming I hold the clutch pedal down with a stick, is there really room to slip in some neatsfoot oil? I wonder if there are modern leather treatments that are better? Neatsfoot causes glazing in the long run.

Last question (for now): Supposing I wanted to remove the transmission to take a good look at the clutch. Roughly how heavy is that casing and tranny?

Many thanks, Mike Barnes, Vancouver, B.C.

Mike, Usually when these old cone clutches begin slipping there may be oil leak. On a slipping clutch more oil is NOT the answer. Adding 'Fullers Earth' or Diamatcious Earth. will usually help. Give me a call. I am just down in Washington. My phone is 253-752-7901. Pulling the tranny on a '15 just to look is NOT recommended as it is not a simple task!! I know that for certain!!
