Hi, I am new to this forum (and owning a car with wooden wheels for that matter!). I just purchased a 1928 (?) Fast Four that is mostly restored, just needs interior to be complete. Long story short is I need to get a title and am having a really hard time finding the serial number. I don't want to go scraping away at paint unless I have a good idea I am in the right spot. I want to make sure I have the correct serial before beginning the title process. The previous owner who did the restoration wrote down the serial number but I think he missed the first digit in the serial. If I am right it would be an August 1927 production date. Would this be titled as a 27 or is it considered a 28? From what I can see on the production date paper I have it is considered a 28. I also read 27's didn't have front brakes? My car has four wheel brakes. Also who can supply a quality reproduction data plate? I have yet to see a original example anywhere. This seems to be the go to place for info on these cars so i figure someone here has the answers.

I had a '25-'26 era Frame & the number was on top of the cross member that went side to side about where your Butt would be sitting in the car ..

If you have a Wooden Floor you would have to remove the wood to see the top of the Crossmembers.

Or maybe a Lil Dentist Mirror... Hope this helps

Thanks for the info! I actually found the serial number on passengers side outer frame rail above the back shackle mounting hole on the front spring. I had to strip away the paint to see it. The whole number is about 6 inches long and has a dash in it for some reason? It indicates a Nov 18 1927 build date according to build records from this website, which makes more sense than the number I was given. Time to do a title search just to be sure nothing fishy is going on with it. Probably won't come back as anything seeing how it was not on the road for at least 50 years and our state DMV had a fire in the 80's that wiped out their old title records. I guess I am going to title as a 1927 since that is actual build date. :D

If your car was built around serial number A-1,000,000 I think it would be considered a '28.

Definitely a 1928. Completely different car than the 27 except for the engine.
